IU McKinney Team to Take Part in Monumental Marathon November 7
10/16/2015
A total of 45 people from the IU McKinney family will take part in the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon 5K on November 7. The crew includes 40 students, two children of students, and three staff members of the law school.
“I’m thrilled by the number of students who’ve signed up for the team!,” said LeAndra Ross, IU McKinney Wellness Committee Chair and Assistant Director of Financial Aid. Ross is part of the law school’s effort toward placing an importance on physical, mental, and financial wellness. “I believe the turnout for the Monumental 5K demonstrates that our students are truly interested in these wellness efforts.” She expects more such teams to be organized in the not too distant future for other races.
It’s an effort that McKinney students are embracing as well.
“We are incredibly happy to see IU McKinney students willing to get involved and work towards a healthy goal,” said Scott Oliver, president of the law school’s Student Bar Association (SBA). “Each member of the SBA is involved with physical fitness throughout the Indianapolis community and works to encourage students to achieve a balance between school and a healthy lifestyle. The SBA intends to work with students to find new and innovative ways for IU McKinney to participate in related fitness events throughout the city.”
The Indianapolis Monumental Marathon is the state’s largest marathon, and features half-marathon and 5K components. Now in its eighth year, the race also is a fundraiser for public education, and has contributed over $675,000 to its support so far.
