Gabriela Castilhos, LL.M. '13, Presents on Water Law at International Conference

Gabriela Castilhos, LL.M. ’13, presented a talk about Brazilian water law at the University of Santiago de Chile during the IV Intetnacional del Conocimiento, an International Conference on Science, Technology and Culture for Latin America. The event was held October 9-12 in Santiago, Chile.
Castilhos spoke during one of the conference’s 48 symposia, which focused on debating natural resources governance in Latin America. The presentation gave an overview of the Brazilian legal framework concerning the management of water resources and highlighted the challenges for the country`s implementation of the legally incorporated water resources management principles and instruments. The topic was then open for debate and other participants shared their points of view and insights.
The conference is held every two years, and is attended by about 1,400 people worldwide.
After completing her LL.M. studies at IU McKinney, Castilhos returned to Brazil and works for a law firm. She also volunteers for a non-governmental organization called “MORE,” a group which supports refugees after their arrival in Brazil.
