11/06/2015
Two IU McKinney alumnae were among those honored November 5 as “Women of Influence” by the Indianapolis Business Journal.
MaryEllen Bishop, ’82, was honored not only for her legal career as a partner at Cohen Garelick & Glazier, but also for her work as vice chair of the Indiana University Board of Trustees. She was initially elected to the post in 2010, and re-elected in 2013. She’s also served as chairwoman of the IU Alumni Association, co-chairwoman of the Planned Giving Committee for the IU School of Medicine, a member of the IU Athletics Committee, a member of the board of visitors of the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, a member of the steering committee of the Colloquium for Women of IU, and on the board of the IU Foundation and the Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Council.
Marya Rose, ’90, is vice president and chief administrative officer at Cummins. She was honored for her work with one of the biggest entities in the state’s business community, and the company’s stand against the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The manufacturer’s stand against the measure, and against bans on same-sex marriage, goes beyond the state’s borders. In 2014, Rose testified against a proposed constitutional amendment that would have banned same-sex marriage in Indiana. Rose and the company fought similar legislation in Minnesota in 2012, and fought against Proposition 8 in Califorina. She’s also board chair for Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky.
The program began with a welcome that included remarks by Shaun Healey Clifford, ’85, a magna cum laude graduate of IU McKinney.
