Scott Chinn, '94, To Receive Hine Medal
12/16/2015
Scott Chinn, ’94, a partner at Faegre Baker Daniels; Indianapolis office, will receive the Maynard K. Hine Medal for service to the IUPUI campus. The medal honors alumni who make significant contributions to the campus and its alumni programs. He will receive the medal on February 25 at the annual Alumni Leaders’ Dinner.
Several IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law alumni have been recipients of the medal, which was first awarded in 1974. The medal is named for IUPUI’s first chancellor, Maynard K. Hine, who believed in the power of a strong alumni program. Steve Tuchman, ’71, and Jerry Withered, ’80, were Hine Medal recipients in 2014. Jimmie ‘Tic Tac’ McMillian received the medal in 2013.
Chinn has been a part of the IU McKinney Alumni Association board since 2007. He became a member of the executive committee in 2010, served as secretary from 2011 to 2015, and now serves as vice president for the alumni association board. Within that board, Chinn is chair of the alumni engagement committee – focusing specifically on ramping up connections between alumni and students. He’s consistently involved in the Operation L.A.W.S. program related to the mock interviews, where students have the opportunity to practice their job-interviewing skills. He also hosts roundtable discussions at student orientation. His enthusiasm for students and what alumni can do for them is infectious. At the most-recent recent board meeting, he and Judge Robyn Moberly, ’78, proposed the idea of a ‘McKinney Law Alumni Training Institute that would help students understand the profession and help them to be more practice ready upon graduation. He introduced the concept at the meeting, and it will receive further review, illustrating another clear example of how committed Chinn is to the success of the school and its students.
Chinn also serves as a volunteer chair at his firm, Faegre Baker Daniels, for the Law Firm and Corporate Campaign. In that role, he solicits fellow IU McKinney Law alumni within his firm to give back to the school; it’s a task he’s taken on for many years.
In addition, Chinn has agreed to teach a course in State Constitutional Law for IU McKinney as an adjunct professor.
The Alumni Leaders’ Dinner will be held February 25, 2016, at the NCAA Headquarters at 700 W. Washington St. A reception will begin at 6:30, followed by the dinner and program at 7:15. Tables of 10 are available for $500. To learn more, contact Ryan McIlrath of the IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations at 317-274-5063 or rmcilrat@iu.edu
