IU McKinney, Butler University, Create Law Scholar Program
01/05/2016
The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and Butler University have partnered to create the “Butler University Law Scholar” program. The first Butler Law Scholar will be named in time for the Fall 2016 semester.
“I am delighted by the news of our partnership with Butler University,” said IU McKinney Dean Andrew R. Klein. “Our alumni from Butler have gone on to do many great things in the legal profession, in business, and in community service. I’m confident the Butler grads who attend IU McKinney through this partnership also will go on to do wonderful things that will make both institutions incredibly proud.”
U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson, ’83, is a 1979 graduate of Butler University and encouraged the establishment of the partnership. She is a member of the IU McKinney Board of Visitors, as well as the Butler Board of Trustees.
Through the program, Butler will nominate one student each year to enroll at IU McKinney and receive a minimum half-tuition scholarship. The Butler University Law Scholar also will be guaranteed an experiential learning opportunity, either an externship or a paid research assistantship, after he or she completes 31 hours of coursework. Graduating Butler seniors and alumni are eligible to apply. Students will apply to both IU McKinney and the Center for High Achievement and Scholarly Engagement office at Butler.
“Our new partnership provides a wonderful opportunity for our students while at the same time raising the profile of the McKinney School of Law among law school-bound students at Butler,” Butler Provost Kate Morris said.
This brings the total number of colleges and universities the law school has created partnership agreements with to nine. The others are Marian University, Wabash College, Bradley University, Franklin College, the University of Southern Indiana, DePauw University, Albion College, and Anderson University.
