Five Successful SJD Defenses Mark Fall 2015 at IU McKinney

Five scholars completed the requirements and successfully defended their dissertations during the Fall 2015 semester at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Topics explored included intellectual protections, corporate governance, breach of contract, corporate dissolution, and disciplinary liability for lawyers.
Apinya Bunditwuthisagul successfully defended her research of the topic “Thailand at the Crossroads: Adopting Stringent Requirements for Intellectual Protection?” on October 16. Her advisor at IU McKinney was Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen.
Gug Heyon Cho defended his dissertation titled “Exploring Critical Factors that Affect the Application of Specific Performance as a Remedy for Breach of Contract in American and South Korean International Business Transactions.” His defense was held November 17. Professor James Nehf was the advisor, and Professors Frank Sullivan and Tom Wilson were on the defense committee.
Also on November 17 was Omar Alsunaid’s successful in his defense of his dissertation titled “The Correlation between Corporate Governance and Corporate Performance: Board Independence.” His advisor was Professor Nicholas Georgakopoulos of IU McKinney, and Professors Nehf and James White of the law school were on Alsunaid’s defense committee.
Mohammed Alasmi defended his dissertation titled “Disciplinary Liability for Lawyers in Saudi Arabia” on November 18. Professor White was Alasmi’s advisor, and Professors Gerard Magliocca and Fran Quigley, ’87, were on the defense committee.
The final defense of the semester was held November 19 by Bashar Almofadda. His work was titled “The Legal Causes of Dissolution of Company: A Comparative Study between Saudi Law, Islamic Law, and Delaware Law.” Professor Frank Sullivan was Almofadda’s advisor, and his committee was made up of Professor Georgakopoulos and Vice Dean Antony Page.
