IU McKinney to Commemorate Diversity and Black History Month with Event Series

The Diversity Committee of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law has compiled a series of events to commemorate Black History Month and encourage discussion regarding diversity throughout the month of February.
“The members of the Diversity Committee wanted to sponsor a set of programs that could help engage the law school community in meaningful dialog, while also encouraging an element of inspiration and pride, in the knowledge that we indeed continue to follow in awesome footsteps,” said Richard Humphrey, reference and instruction librarian at the Ruth Lilly Law Library and member of the Diversity Committee at IU McKinney.
- February 5: The Black Law Students Association and the Hispanic Law Society present the fourth annual Diversity Dinner “The State of Diversity: A Dialogue about Solutions, Progress and Common Purpose” from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Indianapolis Arts Garden 20 N. Meridian St.
- February 8: Lunar New Year Party beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Inlow Hall Student Lounge.
- February 11: James P. White Lecture on Legal Education: “The Problem of Law School Discounting: How Do We Sustain Equal Opportunity in the Legal Profession?” The speaker will be former Indiana Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard, who is also a visiting professor at IU McKinney. The lecture begins at 5 p.m. and carries with it 1.0 hour of CLE. The lecture will be held in the Inlow Hall Wynne Courtroom, followed by a reception at 6 p.m. in the atrium.
- February 17: Student Roundtable Discussions on Diversity “What Does Diversity Mean to You and How Do We Bring Everyone to the Table?” The discussion, over free pizza, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Inlow Hall atrium.
- February 24: “Meet Joe Smith.” This alum of IU McKinney, Class of 1975, and longtime Indianapolis social justice advocate will be in the Inlow Hall atrium from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
