Two alumni of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law are among the 15 total semifinalists for the vacancy that will be created when Justice Brent Dickson, ’68, retires from the Indiana Supreme Court later this year.
Judge Steven R. Nation, ’75, of Hamilton Superior Court 1, and State Rep. Thomas W. Washburne, ’90, of Old National Bancorp, will take part in the second round of interviews with the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission March 3 and 4.
Justice Dickson was elevated to the high court by then Governor Robert D. Orr in 1986, and he led the court as chief justice from 2012 to 2014. He has taught as an adjunct professor at IU McKinney many times, including the Fall semesters of 1993 and 1994, and the Spring semesters of 1996 through 1999. He was the recipient of the law school’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999.
Justice Dickson is one of three IU McKinney alumni who currently serve on the state’s high court. Justice Steven David, ‘82, was appointed in 2010. Justice Mark Massa, ‘89, was appointed in 2012.
