Miki Pike Hamstra Is IU McKinney's New Director of Graduate Programs
02/01/2016
Miki Pike Hamstra is a familiar face at IU McKinney. The new Director of Graduate Programs worked as the Assistant Director of the law school’s Master of Laws Program from 2004 to 2007.
“I am so pleased about this opportunity to return to the law school,” Hamstra said. “I’ve been at several different universities and I’m excited for the opportunity to grow our graduate programs.”
Armed with several graduate degrees herself – Hamstra has a master’s in international relations, a master’s in English with a teaching English as a second language concentration, and a master’s in educational psychology – she is particularly well suited to serving in her new role.
“I’m addicted to learning,” she said. Hamstra’s love of learning had its start with languages; she speaks French and a little Spanish. In addition to her graduate degrees, she is currently a doctoral student in educational psychology.
Hamstra’s mission in her new role at the law school is to build new international partnerships to diversify the student body, grow the core competencies that are currently in place, and reinvigorate alumni participation in law school programs.
She has an affinity for international students, having lived and taught in the Alps in France before she had her family. The Hamstra family is an international homestay host, and currently has a college student from Saudi Arabia staying with them. The family will host a student from France in Summer 2016.
