IU McKinney Cane Award Honorees Announced

IU McKinney Cane Awards for outstanding professors and administration members were announced at the school’s Barrister’s Ball on February 27. All of the awards are selected by McKinney law students.
The Black Cane Award for most outstanding professor was given to Professor Lahny Silva. She is a Dean’s Fellow, and joined the faculty at IU McKinney in 2011. She was the William H. Hastie Fellow at the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, where she received her LL.M. She received her juris doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University.
The Red Cane Award for most outstanding professor who has been with the law school for less than three years was presented to Visiting Professor Kevin Bennardo. He is a clinical professor of law, who teaches in IU McKinney’s legal analysis, research, and communication program. He received her bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Miami University, and his juris doctorate, summa cum laude, from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
The White Cane Award for most outstanding administrative staff member was given to Assistant Dean Chasity Thompson, ’02. She is the assistant dean for the law school’s Office of Professional Development. She received her associate’s and her bachelor’s degrees, magna cum laude, from Alabama State University, and her M.B.A. from Auburn University.
