IU McKinney 2L Organizes Networking Fair for Social Service Providers to Benefit Clients, Attorneys, Students
03/04/2016
IU McKinney 2L Brittany Glaze has organized the inaugural Networking Fair for Social Service Providers in the Indianapolis area. The free event will be held March 24 in the Inlow Hall atrium from 1 to 4 p.m.
Glaze wants the more than 40 service providers who have already indicated they will attend the event to get to know more about one another and learn how other agencies may be able to also serve their clients. The event is also designed to be an opportunity for students to discover the learning and career opportunities available in this area of the law. She got the idea for the fair after serving as an intern at various social service and legal agencies in Indianapolis.
“To be an effective lawyer or social service provider, it is crucial to understand the systems that our clients are forced to navigate,” Glaze said. “Perhaps they have a disability, need health insurance, have children in need of services, are an older adult in need of services, are facing poverty or homelessness, or are at risk for recidivism into the criminal justice system. While one person can certainly solve some of a client’s issue, one person cannot solve them all. By working together with our fellow community members, we can make a significant difference in the lives of many. This Network Fair will serve as a platform to learn more about the services being provided in the Indianapolis area, increase collaboration, encourage partnerships, and ultimately enhance services to clients.”
Reservations are encouraged, but not required. Students also are invited to bring resumes for service providers. To learn more, contact Glaze at bjglaze@imail.iu.edu.
