Women's Caucus Auction Raises Funds for Charity, Honored for Service
04/13/2016
The annual Women’s Caucus Auction, held on February 18 in the Inlow Hall atrium, was a successful project connecting the law school to the local community.
Women’s Caucus Auction co-chairs Katelyn Brouillard, Carol Greer, Katherine Rice, all 2Ls, took a tour of Coburn Place, a 20-year-old transitional housing program for people who have suffered from domestic violence. The students were impressed with the organization’s success and mission, and committed to raising $20,000 to give to Coburn Place to help them with their work. Women’s Caucus received the “Best Service Project” honor for the auction during the fourth annual Student Organization Awards, which were held on April 5. The auction has received the honor all four years that the awards have been presented.
The event is part silent auction, part live auction, and all celebration. Silent auction items included tickets to Indianapolis-area cultural and sports events, yoga classes, art, and a variety of other offerings.
The live auction, featuring Professors Michael Pitts, Carlton Waterhouse, and Diana R. H. Winters as auctioneers, was entertaining and at times contested as students battled to claim their must-have items. Excursions with alumni and faculty were among the items up for bid.
But one of the most hotly contested items was the evening’s final item: Operation Friendly Fire. The winners would have the opportunity for a paintball match with Dean Andy Klein, Vice Dean Antony Page, and Professors Eric Dannenmaier, Yvonne Dutton, Carrie Hagan, Max Huffman, Robert Katz, Mike Pitts, and Lahny Silva. Nine students won the prize for $1,900.
