IU McKinney J.D. students Hannah Croucher, Chandler Carney, Elinam Kpotufe, and Marie Allen, and LL.M. student Zahra Ayoubi, J.D. ’15, attended the 110th meeting of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) March 30 through April 2 in Washington, D.C. The law school entered into an academic partnership with ASIL in Fall 2015 that made it possible for students to attend the event at reduced costs.
Ayoubi wanted to attend the meeting because she was interested in the international legal issues that were discussed at the meeting. “I learned about many areas of international law and the current status of those issues among the international community,” Ayoubi said.
Carney also has an interest in international law, and has lived in Chile for a time. During the meeting, she was able to attend a speech made by Chile President Michele Bachelet. “I was able to be about 10 feet away from her for nearly an hour!” Carney said. “It was a real experience for me.”
Kpotufe also is interested in pursuing this area of the law. I wanted to attend the meeting because I am pursuing a certificate in International and Comparative Law and considered it a golden opportunity to meet like-minded professionals and create a strong network for my future career," she said. "The panels and the quality of the panelists in addition to their willingness to mentor students and young professionals starting out in the International Law arena was very impressive."
