Professor Nedeff Comments on Gun Safety for Indianapolis Television News
04/22/2016
A 2-year-old boy in Indianapolis was killed April 20, shot with a gun he found in his mother’s purse. It will be a difficult case to prosecute, Professor Novella Nedeff told television station WTHR for a story that broadcast April 21.
Indiana has no law that requires adults to lock or store guns away from children. There are a number of factors to consider in a case like this, Professor Nedeff said.
Those questions include, “Why did the mother have the gun? How long was the child unattended? Whether the child had a history of getting at the gun,” she said in the story.
Professor Nedeff is a clinical professor of law and teaches in the Criminal Defense Clinic.
