Miriam Murphy Named Director of Ruth Lilly Law Library
04/29/2016
Miriam Murphy has been named director of the Ruth Lilly Law Library, IU McKinney Dean Andrew R. Klein announced. Murphy has been serving as interim director of the law library since Judith Anspach announced her retirement in 2015.
Murphy served as associate director of the law library for 14 years prior to moving into the director’s role on an interim basis. She has taught legal research for 27 years and currently teaches legal research courses at IU McKinney.
“I am pleased that Miriam Murphy will be director of the Ruth Lilly Law Library," said Dean Klein. "She is an excellent leader and a careful steward of the library’s resources. Indeed, she is herself an invaluable resource to the law school community, and we are fortunate to have her in this important role.”
Murphy is active in numerous professional committees at the national, regional, and local levels, and has held leadership positions in state and regional library associations. She chaired the Legal Information Gateway Task Force, directing the creation of the Legal Information Gateway, an informational brochure and web page for pro-se patrons and librarians who provide legal reference.
At the campus level, Murphy serves as chair of the IUPUI faculty Council Campus Planning Committee, and as a member of the IUPUI Resource Planning Committee, the IUPUI Campus Promotion and Tenure Committee, and the IUPUI Faculty and Staff Relations Committee. Prior to coming to IU, she was head of public services at the Professional Center Library at Wake Forest University School of Law. She also has held library positions at the law firm Faegre Baker Daniels, and the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University.
