Derek Lavender, '14, Injured in Motorcycle Crash

Derek Lavender, ’14, a registered patent attorney in the Indianapolis office of Taft Stettinius and Hollister’s Indianapolis office, was injured in a motorcycle crash on June 15.
According to the gofundme page created by friends of Derek and his wife, LeAnne, to help cover expenses, the accident left him with a spinal cord injury and other serious injuries. The gofundme page has a link to a blog, which contains updates on Derek’s condition.
Derek is a member of Taft’s intellectual property group, focusing his practice on patent preparation and prosecution. He worked for several years at Harley-Davidson Motor Company in the full vehicle test and evaluation group while earning his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University. He graduated from IU McKinney with a graduate certificate in intellectual property law.
