06/27/2016
Professor Diana R.H. Winters recently analyzed steps taken by the FDA toward helping consumers better understand the food products the agency regulates.
Professor Winters wrote the piece for Health Affairs Blog, which was published June 24. The FDA is seeking public comment on use of the term “natural” as it concerns food labels, indicated that it would seek comments on how nutrient content claims are regulated, and ruled on an updated Nutrition Facts label, which large companies must comply with by July 2018.
Professor Winters is associate professor of law and a Dean’s Fellow. Before joining the IU McKinney faculty in 2012, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Law, where she was also the Health Law Scholar. There she taught environmental law, environmental litigation, and advanced civil procedure. Winters received her Ph.D. in the History of the American Civilization from Harvard University, and her J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law, where she was a recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship.
