Derek Lavender, ’14, a registered patent attorney in the Indianapolis office of Taft Stettinius and Hollister’s Indianapolis office, was injured in a motorcycle crash on June 15 on his way to the office.
The law firm is hosting a cocktail party and silent auction to benefit Derek and his wife, LeAnne, on September 20. The private event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Regions Rooftop in downtown Indianapolis, and will feature live music, cocktails, tastings, and a silent auction. Tickets to this private event are $50.
Lavender was left with a spinal cord injury, as well as other serious injuries, as a result of the crash. LeAnne has been blogging about his recovery. Friends and family have created a gofundme page to help the couple cover expenses. The page also contains updates on Derek’s condition.
Derek is a member of Taft’s intellectual property group, focusing his practice on patent preparation and prosecution. He worked for several years at Harley-Davidson Motor Company in the full vehicle test and evaluation group while earning his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University. He graduated from IU McKinney with a graduate certificate in intellectual property law.
