IU McKinney 3L Kevin Burns Attends Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar as Midwest Bankruptcy Scholar
08/29/2016
IU McKinney 3L Kevin Burns took part in the annual Midwest Reginal Bankruptcy Seminar August 18 and 19 in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a Midwest Bankruptcy Scholar. The event features two days of continuing legal education presented by panels of judges, bankruptcy trustees, and practitioners from around the country.
Burns, who recently accepted a job at the law firm Benesch Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff in Indianapolis, is pursuing the Corporate and Commercial Law certificate at IU McKinney. “I am quite interested by the study of bankruptcy law and how the understanding of the Code can inform a business lawyer in many aspects of commercial transactions and litigation,” Burns said. “I feel that a wide knowledge base, covering all chapters of the Bankruptcy Code will be advantageous to an aspiring business lawyer.”
“Kevin’s hard work and success in commercial courses, including our bankruptcy law sequence, at IU McKinney have prepared him well for a commercial career,” said Professor Max Huffman, who nominated Burns for the award. “His attending the Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar as a student fellow this summer is both an introduction to this practice area and a recognition of his already substantial successes. We are proud of Kevin’s work and what it represents about our program and our student body at McKinney.”
