IU McKinney Hall Center Event to Focus on Ramifications of Acclarent Settlement
09/26/2016
The former general counsel at IU Health and a former regulatory counsel at the Food and Drug Administration will discuss the Accalarent settlement during the first Grand Rounds event of the Fall 2016 semester.
“The Acclarent Settlement: Lessons Learned” will take place on October 6 at the law school. Speakers will be Norman Tabler, Jr., and Suzanne O’Shea. Tabler is former general counsel at IU Health and now counsel at Faegre Baker Daniels. He worked at the law firm immediately upon graduation from Columbia Law School, and was chair of the first health law practice before serving at IU Health. O’Shea is a director at Navigant Consulting, where she leads the FDA Regulatory Pharmaceutical practice. She was regulatory counsel at the FDA for over two decades, serving in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, the Office of the Chief Mediator and Ombudsman, and the Office of combination Products.
Of the topic for this Grand Rounds event, Tabler said “The case is important because it demonstrates three important ways FDA regulations are enforced: whistleblower actions, civil damages and penalties, and criminal prosecutions. It also provides an insight into the enormous amounts of money at stake in these actions.”
“We are delighted that Norm Tabler and Suzanne O’Shea are joining us to discuss this important case,” said Professor Nicolas Terry, executive director of the William S. and Christine S. Hall Center for Law and Health. “The Hall Center’s Grand Rounds Series provides us the opportunity to engage in discussion of timely issues in health law, to educate our students, and to provide cutting-edge legal education opportunities for members of the local health and life science bar.”
Grand Rounds is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Inlow Hall Wynne Courtroom. The event is free and open to the public, and 1.0 hour of CLE is available with a required registration. To learn more, email the Hall Center for Law and Health at centerlh@iu.edu
