Two IU McKinney Alumni to Be Honored by Butler University

John Hargrove, ’72, and Maribeth Zay Fischer, ’78, will be honored during homecoming at Butler University on October 7.
Hargrove will receive the Butler Medal. He was elected to Butler’s Board of Trustees in 2001 and served as Board Chair from 2008 to 2011. In 2014, he was named the first Trustee Chair Emeritus. A magna cum laude graduate of IU McKinney, Hargrove is an attorney at Hargrove Law Group in Boca Raton, Florida. The Butler Medal is the highest honor conferred by the Butler University Alumni Association.
Fischer will receive the Katharine Merrill Graydon Alumni Service Award. She established the Zay Legacy Scholarship at Butler with a preference for families with more than one student in college at the same time. She also underwrote the Journalism Director’s Office in the Fairbanks College of Communication. She served on the Ovid Butler Society steering committee, and the Central Indiana Alumni Chapter. Fischer was an attorney for AMAX Coal Company, Weyerhaeuser Company, and Ice Miller.
The annual Alumni Awards Program will take place in the Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts. The program honors Butler alumni for their contributions to their communities and to Butler.
