Dan Evans, '76, Talks with IU McKinney Students about Health Law and Policy Topics for Future Study
10/10/2016
Dan Evans, ’76, president and CEO emeritus of Indiana University Health, led a focus group with 25 IU McKinney health law students to identify health law and policy topics worthy of future study. Evans met with the students on October 6 at Inlow Hall.
Evans will teach a seminar on “Leadership in Health Care” at the law school in Spring 2017. This course will provide health law students the opportunity to learn about the challenges of leadership within the highly-regulated health and life sciences environments. As part of the course development process, Evans collaborated with students to identify the topics that the next generation of leaders in health and life sciences law will likely encounter and to develop strategies for effective exploration of these topics. Professor Nicolas Terry, Executive Director of the Hall Center for Law and Health, looks forward to the addition of this unique class to the school’s robust catalog of health law courses. “The opportunity to study legal leadership in the health and life sciences with an instructor who has been such a driving force in shaping the health landscape of Indiana will be an exceptional experience for our students,” Professor Terry said.
Evans was instrumental in the development of the IU Health Scholars program at IU McKinney, which helps the law school recruit and support JD/MHA and JD/MPH students. IU Health Law Scholars receive scholarship support, experiential learning opportunities, and co-curricular developmental opportunities. These program enhancements are designed to allow the IU Health Law Scholars to deepen their understanding of the complex interaction among health law, health administration, and public health, while also providing them essential opportunities to apply their knowledge in experiential learning settings.
