IU McKinney Students Take Part in Partners in Housing Clean-up Efforts
11/02/2016
Students from IU McKinney joined Professor Lahny Silva to help clean two buildings in Indianapolis through the Second Chance Reentry Program. Professor Lahny Silva organized the students’ efforts, benefitting Partners in Housing on October 22.
The organization began in Indianapolis in 1993 and has rescued and rehabilitated properties that have provided a total of 517 homes. The organization’s mission is to provide affordable housing to people who most need a stable place to live.
"This is a great opportunity for law students to connect with the community," Professor Silva said.
Professor Silva and the students cleaned throughout the day readying rooms in two buildings on North Pennsylvania Street in downtown Indianapolis for new residents. The dwellings will house formerly incarcerated persons and their families, who often have trouble finding safe and affordable housing. The apartments also will be used by the homeless.
