Professor Schumm, '98, Discusses Latest Indiana Constitutional Amendment
11/11/2016
Indiana voters approved an amendment to the state’s constitution that adds the right to hunt and fish to the bill of rights. Professor Joel Schumm, ’98, said he wasn’t surprised by the measure’s easy passage in a story published in the Indianapolis Star.
“Hunting and fishing is deeply ingrained in our culture and our state,” Professor Schumm said in the story. “The opposition’s argument was that the amendment was unnecessary, which isn’t a very compelling case.” He doesn’t believe the amendment will have a big impact because it still allows lawmakers to govern hunting and fishing.
Professor Schumm also discussed the measure in a story that was published in the South Bend Tribune.
Professor Schumm is a magna cum laude graduate of the law school, and director of the IU McKinney Appellate Clinic. In addition, he is director of the Judicial Externship Program, and director of Experiential Learning at the law school.
