Professor Margaret Ryznar discusses the issues in an international child custody case involving an Indiana mother who was awarded full custody, but who has had to move to her ex-husband’s native Cyprus in an attempt to see her children.

Marla Theocharides was granted a divorce and full custody of the couple’s two children in an Indiana court. She also agreed to “joint custody” in a court in Cyprus that granted her visitation rights. She now says that her ex-husband is keeping the children away from her.

“No matter which countries are involved, international child custody cases are inherently difficult for one of the parents, who must spend huge resources battling in a foreign court,” Professor Ryznar said. The story is available on the Indianapolis Star’s website.
