Judge Magnus-Stinson, '83, Named Chief Judge of U.S. District Court

Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson, ’83, has been named chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. She took over the role when Judge Richard Young’s term expired November 23. A news story about the court’s leadership change was published in the Indiana Lawyer.
Judge Magnus-Stinson served on the Marion Superior Court from 1995 to 2007, when she became a federal magistrate. She was elevated to the District Court bench in 2010, filling the vacancy created when Judge Larry McKinney took senior status.
She currently serves on several judicial committees, including the Defender Services Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States, the 7th Circuit Committees on Criminal Pattern Jury Instructions and on Supervised Release, as well as the 7th Circuit Advisory Committee on Rules. She also has served as chair of the Facility/Court Security Committee for the Southern District of Indiana since 2010. In addition, Judge Magnus-Stinson serves as a member of the IU McKinney Board of Visitors.
