IU McKinney Ranked in Top 10 for Graduate Employment
12/08/2016
The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law has made a list of law schools that are notable for their employment rates among graduates.
A story about this appears on The American Lawyer website, and the story is based on a November 29 blog entry on The Faculty Lounge. After crunching the numbers, blog writer Professor Dan Filler of the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Drexel University listed IU McKinney at number 29 nationally. The American Lawyer story places IU McKinney at number 7 on its list of what it terms “underrated” law schools. The list is comprised of schools that see their graduates get into a high percentage of JD or JD-advantages jobs within nine months after graduation. IU McKinney has 82 percent of its graduates in such jobs, the highest ranking of any Indiana law school.
“I think a big takeaway is that the U.S. News ranking doesn't actually predict how well graduates of a given school will do on the job market,” Professor Filler wrote in his blog post. “One conclusion from this data is that any school recruiting solid students (as opposed to students who probably don't belong in law school) can deliver those students good job outcomes if it trains them well and provides good support from bar prep through career planning.” IU McKinney’s Office of Professional Development hosts multiple events each semester aimed at preparing students for their future careers. The law school’s clinic programs and experiential learning opportunities also help prepare students for their first legal jobs.
It’s just the latest among many accolades IU McKinney has received. The law school was named a Best Value Law School for the third consecutive year by the National Jurist, was named to the top 5 for the Midwest region by Lawyers of Color Magazine, and had the most alumni named to the 2016 Indiana Super Lawyers list of any school.
