Two IU McKinney S.J.D. Students Successfully Defend Dissertations in Fall 2016

Macarena Foitzick Zumelzu and Yazeed Alissa successfully defended their dissertations for the Doctor of Juridical Science degree at IU McKinney during the Fall 2016 semester.
Zumelzu’s topic was “The Access to Healthcare Services as a Human Right Under International Law and Its Application in Latin American Countries: Case Studies from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, and Brazil.” She is a Fulbright Scholar at IU McKinney. She received her LL.M., magna cum laude, in international law with a specialization in human rights from American University’s Washington College of Law. Zumelzu is a legal advisor at the Chilean National Sport Institute; prior to this role, she was a legal advisor at the Chilean Superintendence of Health and an assistant professor at the University of Chile School of Law. Her defense took place on September 21.
Alissa’s topic was “A Healthcare Reform of the Heath System in Saudi Arabia: Proposing a National Health Insurance System.” He received his LL.M. in insurance law from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and he holds the professional insurance certificate from the Institute of Finance in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He has served as assistant secretary-general of the Insurance Disputes Resolution Committee in the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, was a legal consultant for the Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia, worked as a lawyer and legal consultant for the law firm Alzamil & Al-Kharashi, and worked as a legal consultant in legal international affairs at Aetna Insurance in the United States. His defense took place on November 15.
