Mohamed 'Arafa, S.J.D. '13, Publishes Recent Scholarship, Plans Speaking Engagements

Mohamed ‘Arafa, S.J.D. ’13, has seen his recent scholarship published and has taken part in speaking engagements while making plans for more.
‘Arafa published a book chapter with co-author Ahmed El-Ashry titled “Gender Equality in the Arab and Muslim World: Whither Post-Revolutionary Egypt?” in the book published by Routledge titled Gender Equality in a Global Perspective.
In addition, his article titled “The Prohibition of Wearing Veil in Public Schools in Egypt: An Analysis of the Egyptian Supreme Constitutional Court Jurisprudence” has been published in The Journal Of Constitutional Research.
‘Arafa was a contributor to a recent publication produced by Georgetown University Qatar’s Center for International and Regional Studies. He contributed his expertise on Egypt to the report titled Transitional Justice in the Middle East and North Africa.
He has taken part in two recent events at IU McKinney, and spoke at Valparaiso Law School as part of its annual Islamic Law Seminar on February 22. ‘Arafa’s subject was "Human Rights in Islamic Law: Real or Fake?” He also has been invited to moderate the annual Conference in Global Legal Issues and to speak on the subject of “Terrorism and ISIS in the Arab World” at IU Maurer School of Law on March 24. He will present the same topic at Wayne State University School of Law on March 28.
‘Arafa is teaching at IU McKinney as an adjunct professor during the Spring 2017 semester. He is teaching courses in Islamic Law, and Comparative Middle Eastern Legal and Political Studies.
