Professor Kelly Discusses Immigration Case for Story in 'Indianapolis Star'
03/06/2017
IU McKinney Professor Linda Kelly discussed the changes in immigration tactics that have taken place since the beginning of 2017 in a story in the Indianapolis Star. The piece was published March 5.
Professor Kelly is working to resolve a case involving a 15-year-old girl and her mother; the pair is originally from Honduras. They came under court supervision sometime after they entered the United States in October 2016, and had been required to check in with an immigration judge. The daughter missed a court date, and the pair was sent to a detention facility in Texas before being moved to Pennsylvania.
“I have not seen immigration go to these lengths,” Professor Kelly said in the story. “What is the sense of picking up basically innocent people? Why are the resources being used this way?”
Professor Kelly is the M. Dale Palmer Professor of Law and oversees the Immigration Clinic at IU McKinney.
