03/28/2017
Five students from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law have been named to the IUPUI Elite 50 list of honorees for 2017. The McKinney honorees are: Eric David, Nicholas Erickson, Joey Keller, Kelsey Pinney, and Swati Pradeep. The Elite 50 recognition dinner will take place on April 19 at the IUPUI Campus Center in Room 450.
David is a dual-degree student at IU McKinney and the IU School of Social Work. He anticipates completing his studies in 2018. He has served as a legal intern at the Marion County Public Defender Agency, and currently works as a case manager at Step Up. Previously, he served as an advocate and volunteer trainer at the Lafayette Crisis Center.
Erickson is a May 2017 J.D. candidate who is currently a certified legal intern in the law school’s Civil Practice Clinic. He also served as a legal extern in the Indiana Supreme Court, and in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. In addition, Erickson was a criminal appeals intern in the Colorado Attorney General’s Office during Summer 2016, and worked as an in-house legal and risk management intern for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society during Summer 2105.
Keller is a May 2017 J.D. candidate who works as a law clerk for the Indiana Secretary of State. She has served as a summer associate at Quarles & Brady, and as a certified legal intern/law clerk at Craig Kelly & Faultless. She also served as a judicial intern for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, and as an intern for the Marion County Democratic Party. In addition, she served a co-chair of the IU McKinney Women’s Caucus.
Pinney is a May 2017 J.D. candidate who works as a research assistant for IU McKinney Professor James Dimitri and as a law clerk at Indianapolis law firm Cline Farrell Christie and Lee. In addition, she served as a legal intern for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Brian Zahra, as a law clerk at the Indianapolis law firm, Lewis and Wilkins, and as an enforcement extern for the NCAA.
Pradeep is an LL.M. student at IU McKinney pursuing the International Human Rights Law track. She organized the law school’s first commemoration of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, which took place in November 2016; she serves as president of the newly-formed United Nations Human Rights Reporting Group, and as vice president of the newly-revived Amnesty International Law Student Chapter, both of which are student groups at IU McKinney. She received a student grant to travel to the Amnesty International Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in March 2017.
The Elite 50 program honors graduate and professional students at IUPUI, and is modeled after the university’s Top 100 Outstanding Students honors program. The program’s purpose is to recognize and reward achievement outside the classroom among the 8,100 graduate and professional student population. The Elite 50 represent the top one-half of 1 percent of the graduate and professional student body at IUPUI. Since awards for academic accomplishments already exist, the Elite 50 mainly focuses on achievements outside of the classroom.
