IU McKinney Students, Alumni Photos Taken at Guantanamo Bay on Display at Inlow Hall
04/24/2017
Photographs depicting the wildlife, beaches, and portions of the military camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are on display at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. The photos were taken by IU McKinney students and alumni who have participated in the Military Commission Observation Project.
Arranged by LL.M. student Aline Fagundes, (in the photo at left with IU McKinney Dean Andrew R. Klein) the pictures on display also include a rare photo of Camp X-Ray, which is where detainees from Afghanistan were initially processed upon their arrival in Cuba.
The Pentagon granted the IU McKinney project permission to send IU McKinney Affiliates -- students, faculty, staff, and graduates -- to Guantanamo Bay to view proceedings live and to Ft. Meade to view via secure video feed. The project was founded by Professor George Edwards, who also is the director of the Program in International Human Rights Law at IU McKinney.
The photos are on display in the atrium at Inlow Hall through May 15. To learn more about the project, and to volunteer to take part, visit the website.
