Vice President Mike Pence, '86, Former Vice President Dan Quayle, '74, Take Part in HBO Documentary

Vice President Mike Pence, ’86, and former Vice President Dan Quayle, ’74, were among the readers who took part in a celebration of “The Words That Built America,” an HBO documentary. The program was an unabridged reading of the authentic words of the nation’s Founding Fathers.
Readers included a range of people from a variety of political points of view. The Declaration of Independence was read by actors and media figures, while the United States Constitution was read by presidents, vice presidents, Supreme Court justices, U.S. Senators, governors, and other political figures. The Bill of Rights was by read middle school students from the United National International School.
The program aired on July 4, and will be broadcast again on September 17, which is Constitution Day.
Pence is the 48th Vice President of the United States. He previously served as Indiana’s 50th Governor from 2013 to 2017. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District, and then the 6th Congressional District, from 2001 to 2013. He was chair of the House Republican Conference from 2009 to 2011.
Quayle was the 44th Vice President of the United States, and served from 1989 to 1993 during the administration of President George H. W. Bush. He also was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976, and the U.S. Senate in 1981.
