'Indiana Lawyer' notes 20th Year of ICLEO Summer Institute
08/15/2017
The Indiana Conference for Legal Education Opportunity (ICLEO) marked its 20th year at an Indiana Supreme Court ceremony to celebrate the milestone.
Chief Justice Loretta Rush addressed a crowd of past and present ICLEO participants, mentors and supporters at the conclusion of the six-week, 2017 ICLEO Summer Institute, which was hosted by IU McKinney.
The ICLEO Summer Institute is an intense preparatory experience designed to help students become accustomed to what they will experience as law students. Once enrolled in an Indiana law school, ICLEO Fellows receive an annual education award to offset the costs of their law school tuition.
Former Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard created ICLEO in 1997 to support minority, low-income, and educationally disadvantaged students who aspire to pursue a law degree and legal career in Indiana. Since then, more than 500 students have successfully completed the Summer Institute and 394 have graduated from law school.
IU McKinney Assistant Dean of Admissions Patricia K. Kinney, ’02, and Assistant Dean of Professional Development Chasity Thompson, ’02, directed the 2017 summer program.
