Examination of Music Fair Use Opens IP Distinguished Lecture Series

Professor Ed Lee presented the opening program in the Center for Intellectual Property Law and Innovation’s Distinguished Lecture Series for the 2017-18 academic year. His lecture, “Music Fair Use – Missing in Adjudication,” took place on September 12 in the Wynne Courtroom at Inlow Hall.
Professor Lee is shown here with Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen. Professor Lee is the Director of the Program in Intellectual Property Law at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. Professor Lee’s scholarship in this area examines why the fair use defense is seldom used in litigation involving music. During his lecture, he played some of the music that has been the subject of litigation. Professor Nguyen is the Gerald L. Bepko Chair in Law and the Director of the Center for Intellectual Property Law and Innovation at IU McKinney.
