Professor Boyne Co-Teaches Seminar in Germany

Professor Shawn Boyne visited Bielefeld University in Germany last week to co-teach a seminar on comparative criminal procedure law with the Dean of the Law School, Prof. Dr. Andreas Ransiek. During the seminar, German law students presented papers on comparative aspects of U.S.-German Fourth Amendment law.
With over 1600 students and 22 professorships the school of law is one of the largest departments at the University.
Professor Boyne is an expert in comparative criminal procedure and has published an ethnographic study of German prosecutors entitled, The German Prosecution Service: Guardians of the Law? (Springer 2014). The book explores the organizational and political factors that shape prosecutorial discretion in Germany's civil law system. She also is one of the co-editors of the Comparative Law Professors Blog​. Since joining the McKinney faculty, she has twice presented her works-in-progress at the American Society of Comparative Law's competitive annual workshop.
