Symposium at IU McKinney to Examine Social Justice

The Cohen & Malad, LLP Symposium will consider the topic, “Holocaust and Remembrance: Social Justice in Today’s World,” on November 10 at IU McKinney. The event will take place in the Wynne Courtroom and Inlow Hall atrium.
Experts on the subject from across the nation are scheduled to present during the event, which carries with it 6.5 hours of Continuing Legal Education credit. Organizations that will be represented among the speakers include the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti-Defamation League, and the American Civil Liberties Union. Among the discussants are Jennifer Thuma, Associate Director of the Office of Professional Development and Pro Bono at IU McKinney; and 3L Puruda Kothari, who is the current Cohen & Malad Fellow. Cohen & Malad established the fellowship in 2013 at IU McKinney.
In addition to providing an overview of the day’s program topic, Thuma is slated to be one of the discussants of the topic, “The Importance of Holocaust Education K-12 and University – Seeking Civil Justice for Holocaust Survivors and Families – History, Moral, and Legal Theories.”
Kothari will be part of a panel that will examine the subject, “Building Bridges through Interfaith Work – Standing United – Hate Crimes Legislation in Indiana.”
The event is free and open to the public with a registration. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., with the program getting under way at 9 a.m. The event concludes at 5 p.m.
