Student Group Relieves Pre-Exam Stress and Helps Jail Art Program
11/02/2017
When creativity meets philanthropy, everyone wins. IU McKinney’s student chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sponsored a Pumpkin Smash event that allowed law students (and faculty or staff for that matter) to take out any excess frustrations on leftover jack-o'-lanterns for a $1.00 donation. All proceeds benefit the art program within the Marion County Jail and Juvenile Detention Center. ACLU student group president Hannah Johnson and her colleagues, Miranda Nehrig, Morgan Daly, Elizabeth Hyde, and Lutfi Badaruddin planned the fundraiser. The organizers gathered baseball bats, safety glasses, and protective ponchos along with donated “used” pumpkins in the Inlow Hall courtyard on November 2.
