Professor Fran Quigley, '87, to Discuss His Latest Book, 'Prescription for the People,' on November 16
11/06/2017
Professor Fran Quigley, ’87, will speak about his latest book, Prescription for the People: An Activist’s Guide to Making Medicine Affordable for All, on November 16 during a Faculty Book Talk. The event will take place in the Wynne Courtroom at Inlow Hall.
In the book, Professor Quigley argues that medicine should not be treated as private property, but instead as a public good, like education or infrastructure. In the work, he advocates for a shift in the global and U.S. approach to developing and providing essential medicines. Globally, 10 million people die each year because they are unable to pay for medicines that would save them. Patients and activists are aiming to make all essential medicines affordable by claiming them as a public good and a human right. The book was published by Cornell University Press.
Professor Quigley teaches in the Health and Human Rights Clinic at IU McKinney, and is the founder of People of Faith For Access to Medicines, or PFAM.
The event, which carries with it 1.0 hour of Indiana CLE with a registration, is free and open to the public. The lecture will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a reception and book signing in the Inlow Hall atrium at 6 p.m.
