Marion Superior Judge William Nelson, '84, under Consideration for Drug Czar
11/14/2017
Marion Superior Judge William Nelson, ’84, is being considered for the post of Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. A story about this was posted by Indiana Lawyer on November 13.
Judge Nelson applied to be the nation’s drug czar in December 2016, but the White House chose Pennsylvania Representative Tom Marino for the post. Marino withdrew from consideration in October when he was learned that he had authored legislation that hurt police efforts to halt the flow of prescription painkillers.
When federal officials asked Judge Nelson if he was still interested in the post, he indicated that he was. He served in Marion County Small Claims Court for six years before being elected to Marion Superior Court in the Criminal Division in 2000.
