Professor Quigley, '87, Outlines 'Prescription for the People' in Book Talk November 16
11/17/2017
Professor Fran Quigley, '87, discussed his latest book, Prescription for the People: An Activists Guide to Making Medicine Affordable for All, during a Faculty Book Talk at Inlow Hall. The event took place on November 16 in the Wynne Courtroom.
In the book, Professor Quigley (in the photo at left from the event) argues that medicine should not be treated as private property, but instead as a public good, like education or infrastructure. In the work, he advocates for a shift in the global and U.S. approach to developing and providing essential medicines. Globally, 10 million people die each year because they are unable to pay for medicines that would save them. Patients and activists are aiming to make all essential medicines affordable by claiming them as a public good and a human right. The book was published by Cornell University Press.
Professor Quigley teaches in the Health and Human Rights Clinic at IU McKinney, and is the founder of People of Faith For Access to Medicines, or PFAM.
