Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen's latest book, titled, The Intellectual Property Holding Company: Tax Use and Abuse from Victoria's Secret to Apple, has been published by Cambridge University Press.
The book, written with Professor Jeffrey A. Maine, explains how the use of IP holding companies has become economically unjustified and socially unacceptable, and how calls for change are being made. The work outlines some companies' practice of parking their valuable intellectual property assets in holding companies in tax-favored jurisdictions, thereby avoiding billions in taxes.
Professor Nguyen holds the Gerald L. Bepko Chair in Law, and is the director of the IU McKinney Center for Intellectual Property Law and Innovation. She is an internationally recognized legal scholar, known for her expertise at the intersections of intellectual property, secured transactions, bankruptcy, licensing, and taxation. She was named a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers in March 2017.
