Professor Emmert Talks with Bloomberg Politics for Story on Attacks on Eastern European Justice System
12/12/2017
The removal of senior judges from the bench in Poland is part of a trend in eastern Europe as populist leaders attempt to take control of the judiciary, and Professor Frank Emmert discusses the move in a story for Bloomberg Politics. The piece was published December 12.
In Poland, two-fifths of the justices on the nation's Supreme Court were forced into retirement, the story relates. "All your alarm bells should be going off," Professor Emmert relates in the piece. "Leaders are trying to short-circuit the rule of law."
Professor Emmert is the John S. Grimes Professor of Law and the Executive Director of the Center for International and Comparative Law. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, North American Branch.
