IU McKinney Alumni, Professor Among Those Named to IBJ's annual Forty Under 40 List

Five alumni of IU McKinney and Professor Lahny Silva have been named to the 2018 list of the Indianapolis Business Journal's Forty Under 40 honors program.
Professor Lahny Silva is an Associate Professor of Law and Dean's Fellow at IU McKinney, where she has been a member of the faculty since Summer 2011. She has been honored by the law school and Indiana University for her teaching, and she has been named Faculty Advisor of the Year twice for her work with the Black Law Students Association. She is known in the community for her work with the Re-Entry and Community Help (REACH) Legal Assistance Program, which aims to help people who have been previously incarcerated take their places back in the community. She also helped students found the Second Chance Re-Entry Assistance Program in Spring 2017.
Travis E. Barnes, '13, is the Chief Executive Officer at Hotel Tango Whiskey Corporation, which he co-founded with his wife, Hilary Barnes, '14, and classmates Nabeela Virjee, '13, and Adam Willfond, '13. Barnes was inspired by the September 11 attacks to enlist in the Marine Corps, and he resumed his college education after three tours of duty. His experiments with distilling his own spirits were encouraging, and Barnes elected to focus on business after graduation.
Kiamesha-Sylvia G. Colom, ‘07, is a partner at Benesch Law, in the Real Estate and Environmental Practice Group. She's been listed by Chambers USA as a 2017 Up and Coming lawyer, was an Indianapolis Foundation Fellow in 2016, was presented with a Top 40 Young Lawyer Award in 2016 by the American Bar Association's Young Lawyer's Division, and was a Fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity in 2015, among other honors.
Allison Karns, ‘08, is the Legislative Director for Governor Eric Holcomb. Prior to this post, she was the Public Safety Policy Director in the gubernatorial administration of Vice President Mike Pence, '86; served as general counsel in the Indiana Department of Homeland Security; was legislative director for the Indiana Public Retirement System; and was assistant majority counsel for the Indiana Senate.
Adam Krupp, ‘04, is the IDOR Commissioner. He served as Deputy Director, and Counsel at the Indiana Division of Family Resources; General Counsel at the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles; and Special Counsel to then-Governor Mike Pence, ’86. In addition to his public service in Indiana, Krupp also did stints at law firms in New York City: White & Case, and Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman.
Ahmed Young, ‘11, is the District Chief of Staff and General Counsel for Indianapolis Public Schools. Previously, he had served as Director of the Office of Education Innovation in the administration of Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. Prior to attending law school, Young was an educator, first in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township, and then in the New York City Public School System.
