02/22/2018
Two teams comprised of IU McKinney students competed in the regional rounds of the 2018 ABA National Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition. One team consisted of 3Ls Sierra Murray and Ron Gilbert. The other team consisted of 2L Elizabeth Hyde, 3L Katie Moore, and 2L Kailey Ruggiero.
Although neither team qualified for the national championship rounds, the teams won the majority of ballots in their oral argument rounds and received praise from the judges for their confidence, poise, bench presence, and knowledge of the law and the record.
The ABA NAAC is the largest moot court competition in the U.S. with 184 teams entered in 2018. The regional rounds took place February 15-17 at the Everett M. Dirksen United States Courthouse in Chicago.
Student coach for both teams was 3L Clayton Lengerich, who serves as Assistant Chief Justice of National Competitions as part of IU McKinney's Moot Court Executive Board. Moot Court advisor is Professor Jim Dimitri.
