Externship Fair at IU McKinney Features More Than 25 Organizations
02/02/2018
The atrium at Inlow Hall was filled on February 1 with students who were excited to meet with lawyers from more than 25 organizations offering externships. The annual Externship Fair at IU McKinney (shown in the photo at left) offers students the opportunity to meet with the lawyers that represent a variety of entities offering opportunities in corporate, criminal, health, state government, and intellectual property law, among other areas of practice.
Among the organizations represented were CMG Worldwide, Center for At-Risk Elders, Marion County Public Defender, Public Defender Commission, Public Defender of Indiana, Eli Lilly and Company, Horizon League, IU Health, Indiana Supreme Court and other state courts, Marion and Hamilton county prosecutors offices, National Collegiate Athletic Association, OneAmerica Financial Partners, Old National Bank, Office of Corporation Counsel for the City of Indianapolis, Sagamore Institute, and several Indiana state agencies and offices, among others.
Externships offer students real world, significant, practical lawyering experience in a variety of settings, and offer law school credit that counts toward IU McKinney's six-credit experiential learning requirement.

Ingram, in her first year of law school, met with Assistant Dean of the Office of Professional Development Chasity Thompson, '02, prior to the fair. "We talked through my game plan for maximizing my time at the Externship Fair, so I felt really prepared," Ingram said. She's applied for externships at CMG Worldwide and the Horizon League, with an eye toward pursing intellectual property law or sports law once she completes her legal education.
Perras, another first year student, said the fair " was very helpful because I learned what externs do at each organization from the people I would be working with." She's interested in working for professional sports teams, collegiate athletic departments, or other sports related corporations after law school. Perras applied for externships with the NCAA Enforcement Division, Horizon League, IUPUI Athletics Department/Compliance, Exclusive Sports Groups, and USA Football.
