Professor Nguyen to Discuss Latest Book during Event at IU McKinney
03/20/2018
Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen will present about her latest book, The Intellectual Property Holding Company: Tax Use and Abuse from Victoria's Secret to Apple, during a Faculty Book Talk on March 28 at IU McKinney. She wrote the book along with Professor Jeffrey Maine of the University of Maine School of Law.
The book, which was published by Cambridge University Press in 2017, explains how the use of IP holding companies has become economically unjustified and socially unacceptable, and how calls for change are being made. The work outlines some companies' practice of parking their valuable intellectual property assets in holding companies in tax-favored jurisdictions, thereby avoiding billions in taxes.
Professor Nguyen holds the Gerald L. Bepko Chair in Law, and is the director of the IU McKinney Center for Intellectual Property Law and Innovation. She is an internationally recognized legal scholar, known for her expertise at the intersections of intellectual property, secured transactions, bankruptcy, licensing, and taxation. She was named a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers in March 2017.
The event, which begins at 5 p.m. in the Wynne Courtroom at Inlow Hall, carries with it 1.0 hour of continuing legal education credit with a free registration.
