03/30/2018
Kailey Ruggiero, a second-year student at IU McKinney, was honored for her work as coach of the IUPUI Mock Trial Team at the Liberal Arts Student Council dinner on March 29. Ruggiero was recognized with the Outstanding Mentor/Motivator Award.
Ruggiero started competing in mock trial while in high school, continued throughout her undergraduate education, and has competed on IU McKinney's Trial Team and Moot Court Team. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, she graduated from the University of Dayton with a major in philosophy.
"I had incredible coaches throughout the years and decided I wanted to give back to undergraduate students at IUPUI," Ruggiero said of her desire to get involved with the team. "I started coaching at the start of the 2017-2018 school year and became their head coach in January. This was the program's third year of competing and they qualified for nationals for the first time in school history. I am very excited for the future of the program!"
Ruggiero plans on pursing a career in criminal defense once she completes her legal education.
