IU McKinney Alumnus Philip Aka Appointed Acting Dean at International University of Sarajevo
04/19/2018

Philip Aka, LL.M. '08; S.J.D, '16, has been appointed as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS).
"Working with a team of exceedingly dedicated academic personnel, I plan to give this new role my very best," Professor Aka said. He has been at IUS since September 2017, and has taught constitutional law, administrative law, labor law, and insurance and social security. In addition, Professor Aka is supervising a doctoral dissertation in political science at IUS; he received a Ph.D. in political science at Temple University.
IUS's vision is to be one of the leading law schools in the region. "As dean, I will work to realize this goal," Professor Aka said. "Because the minimum requirement for law teaching in Europe is the Ph.D. or equivalent professional degree, my receipt of the S.J.D. at McKinney prepared me for appointment as full professor, without which my appointment as acting dean would not have occurred.
Professor Aka has taught criminal justice at Chicago State University, and has taught at IU McKinney as an adjunct professor since 2009.
