03/29/2018
Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen discussed her latest book during an event at IU McKinney. Her presentation on The Intellectual Property Holding Company: Tax Use and Abuse from Victoria's Secret to Apple, took place during a Faculty Book Talk on March 28 in the Wynne Courtroom.
Professor Nguyen's co-author, Professor Jeffrey Maine of the University of Maine School of Law, also discussed the work. The book examines how many well-known companies have avoided paying billions of dollars in taxes by “parking” their valuable intellectual property assets in holding companies located in tax-favored jurisdictions.
Professor Nguyen holds the Gerald L. Bepko Chair in Law, and is the director of the IU McKinney Center for Intellectual Property Law and Innovation. She is an internationally recognized legal scholar, known for her expertise at the intersections of intellectual property, secured transactions, bankruptcy, licensing, and taxation. She was named a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers in March 2017.
